Visiting Veules-les-Roses :
one of France’s most beautiful villages

Veules-les-Roses is one of France’s most beautiful villages, encapsulating all the splendor of Normandy. Built in a valley (a depression in the land allowing access to the sea), this village is well worth a visit, with its half-timbered houses and typical old mills.

You can’t visit Veules-les-Roses without seeing the church of Saint-Martin.

It dates from the 16th century, except for the bell tower, which is the oldest part of the building (13th century). The interior furnishings and ornamentation are Renaissance. Inside, you’ll see several sandstone pillars and a 17th-century organ still in operation.

Veules-les-Roses is also known for having the smallest river in France at its heart… the Veules. It’s 1,149 meters long, but no less pleasant to walk along, whatever the season.

Start your stroll along the waterfront and work your way up to the source of the river, where you’ll come across watercress beds, an old mill and charming villas.

Guided tours are also available.

After hours of walking around Veules-les-Roses, there’s nothing better than a gourmet break. La Veulaise, known mainly to locals, is actually the name of theoyster grown in the village.

It’s also the first Seine-Maritime oyster to be raised in the open sea on the foreshore of Veules-les-Roses!

Veules-les-Roses, like Étretat in its day, was one of Normandy’s most popular towns for Impressionist painters.

Veules-les-Roses is still home to many artistic disciplines, including painting, ceramics, sculpture and embroidery…

Whether you take part in the exhibitions organized by the town or visit the many artists’ studios, you’ll always find something to delight your creative side.

Activities to enjoy
the splendor of Veules-les-Roses

The Veules-les-Roses waterfront is a must-see!

At the foot of the cliffs, you’ll find many of the pebbles typical of the Côte d’Albâtre, which give way to sandbanks only at low tide.

For keen anglers, there’s a rocky outcrop not far from the cliffs, ideal for shrimp and periwinkles!

During the summer months, numerous sporting events and activities are organized. There’s also a children’s play area, so don’t hesitate to bring the whole family!

The cliff path (Normandy’s GR21) passes through Veules-les-Roses!
An incredible opportunity to admire the Normandy landscape from the chalk cliffs of the Côte d’Albâtre. Fairly well signposted and without too many difficulties, this trail is one of the most pleasant in the region. With family or friends!

Veules-les-Rose boasts just one 3-star hotel, as well as a number of bed & breakfasts and tourist rentals. As these are quickly saturated, many tourists opt for rentals on the outskirts of the city, 10, 15 or 20 km away.
